Dungeons & Dragons 2.0 (Active RP topic) Dnd

An adventuring party consisting of Athuk the Dragonborn warrior, the two human wizards known as Azul and Shade Rowlandson, and two Dwarves - Gurry Whitebeard and the warrior-priestess known as Gerhild - set out from the town of Crossway several days ago. They have been travelling in the forests of the Lower Oakridge for a long time, searching for evidence of monster activity and stopping to rest only when necessary. The party has heard rumors in town about a pack of monsters that have been ambushing shipments between towns as they pass through the forest.

After departing from a clearing after a brief rest, the party walks onto a trail where they discover the remains of a busted wooden cart. The horse that had been pulling the cart is dead and has several arrows sticking out of its body. There are no other bodies, and the cart's cargo is missing entirely. The party begins to investigate the scene, but it is not long before they are confronted by a woman that hides in the trees, demanding that they tell her what their business is in her forest. This woman is Alysa, a half-elf ranger who diligently watches these woods.

Negotiations between the two groups do not get very far when suddenly the party is attacked by a group of individuals hiding somewhere in the forest, hurling javelins. Several party members sustain minor injuries from the javelins, but Shade Rowlandson, the necromancer, is badly wounded by a javelin to the shoulder. Alysa investigates and discovers that the attackers are a group of a dozen kobolds hidden from sight. She uses her bow to kill two of them and scare several more off, but four kobolds climb the tree she is in and jump upon her, pulling her down to the ground.

The six kobolds that are scared away from Alysa are ambushed in the forest by some serpents summoned by Azul, causing two of them to become occupied. The remaining four run out onto the path where the rest of the party is waiting. They see Athuk, who is wounded slightly from the javelin attacks from earlier. He is also protecting Shade, whom the kobolds know is a magic user. They draw short swords and charge at the two of them. Athuk smashes one aside with his shield and slices clean through another with his sword, killing it. Gerhild cries out and charges towards them with the intent of helping Shade with her healing magic. She swings her war pick at one kobold, but it is well-prepared for her attack and steps out of the way. She ignores it and runs to Shade's side.

One kobold is still recovering from Athuk's shield-bash and the other two are too occupied with the Dragonborn to notice that Gerhild is healing Shade. The female Dwarf removes the javelin from Shade's shoulder and uses her healing magic to close his wound, though it isn't enough to completely dull the pain. The wound will no longer threaten to kill Shade, but it continues to throb and ooze a little blood. Meanwhile, Athuk is able to fend off the attacks from the other two kobolds.

On the other side of the battle, the four kobolds that harass Alysa are raining blows down upon her with their clubs as she braces for the impact. Her armor protects her from most of the attacks, but two strikes manage to thump her on the head. The first strike is a heavy blow that rattles the ranger's head, but the second hit merely glances off of her. Her vision becomes blurred and her head begins to spin, but she manages to grasp one of her daggers and take a frenzied hack at one of her attackers. To her surprise she puts a great deal of strength into the attack and scores a direct hit. One of the kobold's legs is sliced through to the bone! It cries out in surprise and drops its club, falling back in pain. The other three kobolds begin to cautiously back away from Alysa, looking at her with fear and refusing to lower their clubs.

The Current Party:
Athuk (Nirdian) - Male Dragonborn Fighter/Mage
Norik “Azul” Graves (Hawk) - Male Human Conjurer
Shade Rowlandson (Magic Tuba Pixie) - Male Human Necromancer
Gerhild (Tacoe) - Female Dwarf Fighter/Cleric
Alysa Brie (Wiffleball) - Female Half-Elf Ranger
Gurry Whitebeard (Grombrindal) - Male Dwarf Fighter

[Back on track. Feel free to continue posting whenever, guys. There are now 6 active kobolds. Alysa has killed 2 and incapacitated another, Athuk killed one, and Azul's snakes are occupying and/or have killed another 2. 3 are now in the Athuk/Shade/Gerhild area, and the other 3 are battling Alysa.]

There was a brief shine of satisfaction in Athuk's gaze as his blade traveled clean through the kobold's skull, turning it's brain to minced-meat and it's ugly face to an expressionistic portrait of red. The battle, however, was not yet won. And he soon had to brace against two more kobolds, with a third behind him, stunned, but not yet out of the game. Unable to concentrate on his magic due to the pain and having to focus on three enemies at once, Athuk had to resort to a mix of brute force, and something that could be considered foul play. Having blocked another attack of the little kobold duo, sending them staggering back ever so slightly, Athuk decided to try his best get rid of them quickly. Before they could make way for another attack, the two critters noticed a spray of foul-smelling, green-tinted fluids racing toward them. After having emptied his acid-glands at the two attackers, Athuk ducked down and performed a large, circular slice low above the ground, aiming to cut off the four puny, vomit-green, pestered and zit-ridden legs, holding the two kobolds up, just below their knees.

((Now THAT is an allright post. Let's just hope I can keep it up.))

Gerhild withdrew a clean rag from her supplies and tightened it around the Necromancers wound as a bandage, just to keep pressure on it and slow the bleeding. Wordlessly, she finished the job, ignoring the wizards slight yelp in pain as the bandage was tightened. Gerhild stood up from the wounded man, grabbing her warpick and making her way back towards the kobold she had missed. Taking the tool in both hands, her shield slung over her shoulder, she brought the weapon down with all her might in a powerful blow on the lizard-like creature.

[Doing this now, since I have nothing better to do and this way I don't need to update right away tomorrow.]

As Gerhild runs off to go after the kobold that eluded her earlier, Athuk continues to fend off the remaining two and rears back to spew a stream of sizzling acid at his attackers. One kobold is quick on its feet and jumps away so as to only be hit by part of the stream, but its friend is enveloped entirely. Releasing a horrid series of whimpering yelps it falls on the ground, succumbing to its flesh-devouring wounds in mere seconds in complete and utter agony. The kobold that was hit by only part of the stream is also painfully affected, but not killed outright. As it tries to climb to its feet, Athuk swoops in with a direct hit and cuts it clean in half.

Meanwhile, Gerhild charges another kobold and swings at it with her war pick. The kobold is quick yet again but not quick enough. This time Gerhild hits the monster, but merely cuts its arm and causes it to drop its short sword. It jabbers angrily at the Dwarf, hops up and down, and then chooses that it would be best to turn its back and flee. The little beast darts off on all fours, disappearing into the forest from whence it came.

[There are only three kobolds left in the battle, and they're all attacking Alysa. Keep in mind that two more were in the forest when they were attacked by Azul's summoned snakes, so they may or may not still be alive. There's also the one that just ran off a moment ago.

Also Nird, kobolds and goblins are different. I'm splitting hairs, I know, but they really are quite different and you'll likely be fighting goblins later. I want to avoid confusion.]

Azul watched as the Venom Family tore apart a pair of Kobolds like a tidal wave. The Kobolds struggled briefly, trying to get away from the horde of snakes, but the quicker snakes were able to scale their bodies and begin biting their faces. Due to the strong venom of the snakes and their huge numbers, they quickly brought the two Kobolds down to the ground. At that time it was too late, and the rest of the snakes began to attack the downed monsters.

"Ah, this fighting thing sure is a messy business, eh' Staffy?" Azul said to his weapon. Despite the death of every Kobold visible on the path, fang was still barking angrily at the forest. Apparently there were still enemies out there.

"Well then, apparently we still have a few enemies on our hands. Fang, go see to it that our last few foes never want to see our faces again." Azul said. With a wave of his hand the wolf shot off like an arrow into the woods. He found the remaining Kobolds doing battle with a girl he had smelled earlier. The element of surprise was on his side, and the wolf ripped his fangs into one of the Kobolds legs. Using hit and run tactics, Fang continued to run in and out of the trees, always managing to sink his teeth into a different Kobold with each passing.

[Okay Hawk, just remember that I like to control the outcome of your actions in these battles. It's alright this time, but it's something to be avoided in the future. Also, to clarify, Alysa is being attacked by kobolds that are out in the open, since she fell out of the tree and onto the path. That's my bad for not being clear.]

Athuk hated having to use his acid-breath, it left a bad taste in his mouth that could last for hours and there was something about it that just didn't feel honorable, letting the chemicals do the dirty work (and the results were always, very dirty), but he thought himself justified in using it this time. For the little ugly kobolds hadn't been playing nice either, attacking from the shadows with ranged weaponry while the target was occupied otherwise. Those little, sneaky, filthy abominations that they were. Headed back to the cart, back to Shade and Gerhild, on his way, he made a brief stop and sunk his blade into the incapacitated, legless, but still (barely) living kobold.
Athuk retrieved his sword and wiped the dark kobold-blood off of it before sheathing it, and continuing back. Just meters before arriving, he noticed his vision going slightly blurry and he started feeling increasingly light-headed. The dragonborn equivalent of human adrenaline had kept him standing, not to mention fighting while in the heat of battle, now it was returning to ordinary levels, which, for Athuk, meant bad news. He took a few more stumbling steps but then his vision went black he collapsed, landing on his belly, right beside the sitting Gerhild and her current patient, Shade. His eyes closed and breathing in an irregular fashion, but breathing still. And although having been unable to utter a word about his wounds before literally biting the dirt, the javelin sticking out of Athuk's back should be quite the giveaway for the dwarf as to 'what to 'fix'.

((Woops, human error. Edited now, thanks for pointing it out though. : ) Also: Fun fact, my spellcheck apparently knows the word 'goblin', but is utterly confused by 'kobolds'. Also: It's hard to keep the two apart, I just automatically write goblin when I want to write kobold. I do know that the two are different... Quite a bit even.))
((Also: Realism. I was first gonna have him climb, or cut down Alysa's tree. But I figured he must've lost so much blood that he's basically running exclusively on dragonborn adrenaline and therefore he should collapse if he calmed down for just a moment... He should be alright if he gets patched up, though.))

Alysa's knife miracluously found it's target and the Kobold lept back, bleeding from it's leg. The others follwed suit, backing off wairily from her. She stuggled to stand up, but managed to do so. She drew her longsword and let her knife fall to ground in one motion, since her longsword was best weilded with two hands.

Her vision was still foggy and her head was greatly pained, but she steadied herself as best as she could and took a defensive stance, waiting for the Kobolds to advance again.

After seeing their friends torn apart and brutalized by this party of adventures, and after seeing this half-elf woman mangle one of their own even as she was being beaten down by the rest of them, the kobolds face a test of morale. They look at one another and seem to have made up their minds to stand and fight, but one of the tiny critters takes a look at his dead comrades and then at the rest of the party - most of which are so far unharmed - and decides against it. Throwing down his club, the kobold jumps, turns, and darts off into the forest. It appears as though this is the final straw for the remaining two, and they soon follow their friend's example and flee into the woods.

The scene of the battle on the path falls silent. Shade is recovering nicely from his wound and begins to stir, Athuk has collapsed, and Gerhild is looking over the wounded. Azul is magically drained, the newcomer Alysa appears exhausted and finds herself covered in bumps and bruises, and Gurry the Dwarf is yet to break a sweat. Around the scene of the battle there are five dead kobolds, and Alysa is well aware of two more in the woods. Four kobolds have fled, and there is a good possibility that some of them were caught by Azul's snakes or by his wolf. For now, though, all is quiet.

The pain throbs in Alysa's ears as she wipes her blades on the grass and sheaths them. She dug into a pouch on her belt and pulled out a few herbs that to the untrained eye appeared to be just foliage. She mashedthem up in her mouth for a few seconds, then rubed the now moistened clump onto her more serious bruises. The paste is ment to mitigate pain when ingested and to provide a topical salve for external injuries. It would take a few minutes to take affect though, so only time could tell the results of her first aid.

The pain in Shade's shoulder was subsiding, and his eyes fluttered open, bringing himself back to consciousness. He remembered very little. Something ripped into his shoulder, he screamed, fell, and could vaguely see Athuk dragging him to protection, and the dwarf female healing him.
"Thank you," Shade mumbled to the dwarf woman before she left his side. He let his eyes wander until they found the prone form of Athuk. Shade started.
"Athuk? Are you alright?" The necromancer tried to get up and help the dragonborn, but the pain in his shoulder flared up once more, and the darkness of unconsciousness began to creep into his vision once more. He let himself fall back.
"Well, I sure am helpful."

Azul skipped through the forest until he came upon Alysa. With the kobolds gone the conjurer was finally free to greet this strange girl and try to figure out if they could get along. They could really use an archer in their band of adventurers, but she had also come close to trying to kill them. Time to see if she could be trusted.

"Look at you girl, you're covered in dirt and blood! Your mother and I are very disappointed in you for involving yourself in a fight you never should have entered." Azul said. He walked into Alysa'a sight and bowed low enough for his hat to touch the ground. "My name is Azul, and I summon killer snakes and wolves. I also do the occasional party." Azul gripped Alysa's hand without waiting for her to reply and shook rapidly to the point where it became very uncomfortable for the archer.

Azul stopped putting on the goofball act and leaned against a nearby tree, his eyes watching the girl from beneath his mask. While Azul was certainly more easygoing than Norik, his other personality, Azul wasn't as mentally ill as he appeared. Most of it was just part of an act to keep people from thinking of him as a threat. "So tell me, who are you and where do you hail from?" Azul gazed into her eyes, trying to discern if she would lie to him.

As Azul walks over towards Alysa and introduces himself, he crosses over one of the routes that was used by an injured kobold in order to escape battle. He looks down and sees that there is a noticeable trail made by drops of kobold blood on the dirt, which lead directly into the forest. As he notices this, Alysa looks down and spots the trail as well.

[Just posting to give this thing a bit of a jolt. You guys seem to be loitering around like you don't know what to do, so maybe I can help: Athuk is unconscious and needs help, Shade could probably use some food or drink to give him some strength back, there are dead kobolds to loot, and now there's a trail of blood leading into the forest after the kobolds that escaped (remember that you're looking for the monsters' lair, you're not just here to find out what happened to that cart sitting over there). Alysa also needs to become acquainted with the other members of the party and introduce herself. There's a lot of stuff you could be doing now.]

Alysa accessed the conjurer as he vigorously shook out hand. He seemed harmless enough, if not a bit touched in the head. She paused for a moment before replying to his introduction, as she was somehwat taken off-guard by his openess.

"I'm... Alysa Brie. Half-elf. I protect nature, and attempt to enforce balance within the flora and fauna. I was tracking a band of poachers who were unwise enough to transgress on the land of my kin. I doubt I'll ever be able to pick up their trail again, after this."

Her mind wandered back to the circumstances when she first encoutered Azul and his group.

"I noticed you travel with a Necromancer, why?" She asked, rather sharply.

Prodding one of the corpses with his boot, Gurry rested his hammer on his shoulder. "Bah! Kobolds," he muttered, bending down to search one of the corpses. Kobolds were little more than pesky muggers, but in great numbers they could be a real pain. Patting down the kobold for anything valuable, Gurry tried to listen in on the conversation between Azul and the elf - it always paid to keep abreast of the situation.

"E's jus' a man like any other. Handy one t' boot." She quickly shifted to what would be her next patient, the unconscious dragonborn Athuk. Approaching the giant body, she bent down and began to see what she could do for him.

Gurry the Dwarf searches the kobold's dead body and aside from a few mundane trinkets he finds little of interest...until he spots the monster's coin pouch. He searches this and finds little of use to him - he counts about ten silver pieces mixed in with fifty or so copper coins. This amounts to little more than a single gold piece, but perhaps worth keeping to some. Then the Dwarf notices yet another pouch hanging from the kobold's belt. This one is a bit lighter but has an irregular shape, with many sharp-edged objects pushing up against the cloth of the pouch. Gurry opens this and is pleasantly surprised by what is inside. The Dwarf finds an assortment of about ten gems, most of them appearing to be dull and strictly ornamental and thus worth very little...but the true prize sits at the bottom of the pouch. Gurry pulls out the shimmering jewel and holds it up to examine it in the light. He appears to have found a beautiful, uncut sapphire.

Meanwhile, Gerhild busies herself examining the Dragonborn's wounds. She finds that Athuk's injuries are not all that severe, and determines that he was likely so greatly affected by them simply because he chose to do battle while injured. She determines that Athuk's wounds are not severe enough to require her healing magic - some simple bandages will do just fine.

Shade heard the exchange between the half-elf and Gerhild.
"A "handy" man?" Shade thought. He smiled inwardly. Maybe his quest of clearing the name of Necromancy was possible, after all.
The Necromancer grunted and tried to get up, but found he was still too weak. He fell back down with a grunt and a cloud of dust. He steadied his breathing for a bit, and looked around.
The kobolds were gone, but Shade wasn't sure if they'd come back or not.
"Do you guys think we should go after them?" Shade asked weakly to the group in general. "Could these creatures be the band of monsters we were charged to get rid of?"

While wrapping the dragonborns wounds, Gerhild even considered herself lucky the being was unconscious. Pain on the wounds caused so much whining and screaming from the patient, it was easier just to do it while he was asleep. Tightening one of the bandages she looked up and her eyes caught only one thing. A blue gem lying between Gurry's fingers. As a dwarf, she had always had an affection for gems, or truthfully anything particularly shiny. This gem was...a point of interest. Her keen eye could identify it with ease as a sapphire.

She finished with Athuk's bandages, sitting back to wipe the blood on her hands onto the grass and even off on her armor. Hands still covered slightly, she drew them back behind her back and inquired to the other dwarf.

"A fine gem lad, where'd be so fortunate t' find it?"

Athuk stirred, slowly he pushed himself into a sitting position, whereupon he noticed that his cuirass had been removed and was now lying beside him, next to his bag and shield. He also noticed that where the javelin had been, now there were bandages. The wound still hurt, but now it was less painful and instead only mildly annoying. The cut in his leg had also been bandaged. It would probably be a few days, maybe a week until he'd be back to his old fighting shape. Gerhild had done a fine job.
After getting on his feet again and putting his trusty armor back on and swinging both the bag and his shield on his back, Athuk looked around to assess the current situation. Upon noticing Shade still on the ground, but very much alive, Athuk smiled, nodded and mentioned that "[He was] glad to see that [he'd] made it." Then the large dragonborn set himself to clearing the field a bit, he gathered the various dead kobolds in a single place around the melted individual, the one who had gotten to taste the full horrors of a dragonborn acidic-breath attack, who Athuk really didn't want to touch. "If any of you guys still want to loot these dishonorable little monsters, I'd suggest doing it now, before I throw them on a heap and burn the lot." He then moved back to where Shade was and set down beside the necromancer, before offering him one of his leather waterflasks. "Thirsty?"

"My former master and I didn't exactly get along, but there is one thing he told me that I have always agreed with. The world is never in black and white, and such things as good and evil cannot be set in stone." Azul leaned on his staff. "A necromancer's abilities can be used for good just like any other type of magic. Who knows what people can learn from speaking to the dead?"

Fang strolled over to Azul and wagged his tail in pleasure. Azul scratched behind the wolf's ears in approval before the beast vanished before their eyes. Azul shook his head as though there were something fogging up his vision. "I would say that we should pursue the kobolds, but I myself have reached my mental limit for a while. Maybe after a bit of rest I can summon Fang once more and we can track the creatures by scent."

Athuk mentioned the pile of dead kobolds and Azul became as giddy as a schoolgirl. "Hurray, corpses!" The conjurer ran over to the dead bodies and began reaching into their pockets indiscriminately as he searched for loot.

Azul searches the remaining kobolds' bodies, finding treasure similar to that which Gurry discovered earlier. There are only a few kobolds left to search, and one of them was mostly dissolved by Athuk's acid along with all of its belongings. In the collective pouches of the various kobolds he finds 72 copper pieces - not worth even a single gold piece, and perhaps not worth carrying - and about 90 silver pieces. The collection of silver accounts for about nine gold pieces, so perhaps that is worth keeping. In addition to this Azul finds two gems among the numerous bodies, but they appear to be rubbish. They are poorly cut and incredibly dull, one dark blue and the other an aqua-ish coloring, but maybe they are worth something.

[If you guys all want to agree on resting, just say so. In this case "resting" would be setting up camp and going to sleep, since Athuk and Azul have both used a good deal of their spells (each of them has only one left) and they can only recover their magic by getting some sleep and re-memorizing their spells in the morning. To be clear about the use of magic, you can only use each spell once per day (this is a simplification of the rules as they are in D&D...they are far too complicated to get into in this RP).]
