A Study on the Feats of a Man - Three Mile Island Edition
Well obviously, summer's long gone, and the old thread served more as a discuss IRL stuff thread then anything. Still, it was one of the most active topics on Soul of the City, and I figured we might as well shift it here! Carry on folks! One way or another, no matter how you slice it, everyone does something productive and/or interesting on any given day. The idea of this topic is incredibly simple: think of one compelling activity that you engaged in on the day of your post and state what it was here. It can be anything from rock-climbing to eating a damn good sandwich. With summer here, there's a lot of time for us all to do things but a lot of temptation to not do anything worthwhile at all. Hopefully this topic will keep us in check.
Over the summer I would like to read a few books, watch some good movies and shows, spend more time with friends, get some lovely writing done, and enjoy my life. With this topic in place, I will have to do something that I enjoy every day this summer. The goal is for each of us to post in this topic at least once every day detailing our escapades, and hopefully a wandering soul will spot our stories and enjoy one of our recreational activities. Here's to a productive summer!
Me, I've done very little the last few days except cough and wheeze, as I'm quite sick and not enjoying it all. <.<

Dangit, I was just about to make this exact topic (with the same name and everything)! D: Ah well, I suppose you win this time, Tacoboy.
Today was rather interesting, actually. The Juniors at my school are doing standardized testing every morning this week, so us Seniors (and lower classmen, I guess, but they're dumb) get to come in at 10:30 instead of the usual 7:20. I got an amazing sleep and then had short classes all day. We did nothing in any of these classes, so I spent most of the time playing games on my iPhone while my teachers struggled to get the attention of my classmates so that they might actually accomplish something. Unfortunately for them, no such things were accomplished.
After school I came home, transported all of the D&D RP stuff to this site, and then set out on a quest for new music. I now have a bunch of new music from The Appleseed Cast and Max Bemis and the Painful Splits.
And yesterday, while driving home from school I saw a license plate that said "DATBUUL". I wish I had gotten a picture.

SENIORS TWENTY ELEVEEEEN
I'm in New Mexico right now. Not a bad place to spend my birthday.
Yesterday my mom broke the binding on her skis. At least it was on a black diamond mogul field, so when the Ski Patrol came up, we wouldn't look too dumb.
Also: skiing is fun.
EDIT: Since it's my birthday, I got presents.
:3
I got two LEGO sets* (because I'm a big boy!) and an airbrush compressor. Oh, AND AND AND a Zippo! The Zippo has a DINOSAUR on it and it says "RAWR!"
*A new Pharaoh's Quest and a large Creator set, for those who know what I'm talking about. The Pharaoh's Quest one comes with great dark red pieces, and FLYING MUMMIES FUCK YEAH
The Creator set has, like, thrity red cheese slopes, frickin' score.

We can title our posts? Interesting. That's cool.
The band and I have been writing a ton, and we plan on doing some recording soon - just so we can put stuff on our MySpace and stuff, but still. I'm very excited.

Had a job interview the other day. I think it went pretty well, so here's hoping I get it. It's just a casual job, but any extra cash I can work up would be great

@Grom: I like the second one. :]
Let's see, today I got to sleep in again...My kinesiology teacher told us a story about a woman's arm he cut off, and that's pretty much the only interesting thing that happened in school. Then I came home and did homework, and came here and did D&D RP stuff. That's my day in a nutshell.
Ooh, and a D&D group update. Sessions have been going terribly. The one player who is supposed to be a Paladin is a piss-poor excuse for one. He derailed the entire campaign because he wanted to kill someone for holding onto his ring for him (he thought he was trying to steal it). Now me and the other players are trying to figure out a way to remove his character from the campaign (it is abundantly clear that he's not going to play by the rules of his alignment, which means he shouldn't be a Paladin anymore, and I know that if I just take away his Paladin powers then he's going to bitch and moan, so I'm just doing away with the character altogether).
Problem is that now the future of the entire campaign is in question, and I'm not quite willing to give up on something I've worked so hard on for the last few months. There's question as to whether or not this player will continue to participate in our sessions if I start denying him the use of this particular character (he's kind of a sore loser like that), and we're trying to make arrangements to replace him if such a thing should happen. If everything turns out alright after all, then we merely have another new player to add to our group. We'll see what happens in the end.

Dear gosh I hate how the text and background are so light and the text is impossible to read half the time without leaning so my nose is touching the fucking screen.
I saw Unknown last night. I liked it a lot. Very good movie. Liam Neeson can make asking for toast sound epic.

I'm really happy because I just bought some new dice. I got a set of black coal-colored dice from Gamescience. They make these really awesome, sharp-edged dice that are supposed to be more random because they're modeled after casino dice and thus aren't rounded as much. I got the black set because the black looks really freaking cool with those sleek edges. I also got some opaque yellow dice from Chessex. The set was less than five dollars and the dice are probably rather cheap, but I just wanted some yellow dice and really didn't need to go out of my way to spend too much money on them. I'm probably going to use the Gamescience dice more often than the yellow ones anyway - the yellow is more for show. :]

I have a blue set that I bought online from Books-a-million. I'm guessing they were higher quality because they came with a nice embroidered felt bag and they cost about $15. I just wish that I had people I could play with IRL.
Re: A Study on the Feats of a Man - Three Mile Island Edition
Well your fancy embroidered felt bag might have cost you a bit extra, too. But yeah, the dice you bought probably were of higher quality than most. Gamescience dice (a set of 7) cost about $12, and they tend to made with higher-quality materials and are usually hand-painted, all of which increases the cost. $12-$15 seems to be the most common price range for really good dice.

Today was the last day of skiing.
I am sad.
We met up with family friends on the slopes today, and skied with them. The family we met is a family of giants. Each one is over six feet, and very friendly. We met through Boy Scouts and Venture.
My brother and I can outski them, though. >

Dear Diary: Today, I fell. Just out the door on the way to my bus en-route to school... My shoulder's been killing me all day. Then at the end of the schoolday, I also managed to get the back of my head on a sudden and violent date with a table. It did not end well.
I am in a lot of pain...
On a different (happier) note: Traded in one of my 3 series 3 snowboarders for a second (no longer available in stores) series 1 nurse. I'd call that a relatively good deal.

@Nird: You must have hurt your head really bad, because a nurse for a snowboarder is such a RIP-OFF. You got cheated, man.
I almost ran someone over in the school parking lot today, no joke. I am a TERRIBLE driver. I was backing out of my space and I was all like, "Okay I'm halfway out of my spot time to press the gas pedal down ALL THE WAY," and that's exactly what I did. I was like FWOOSH and the person who was walking behind my car like, sprinted out of the way. What did I do? I put on my shades and drove off like nothing happened. What? I almost hit someone? I didn't notice, I was putting on my shades.
Oh, and this happened to me today:
Yes, that's a Ritz Bit cheese cracker sandwich. A single mini-cracker sandwich that is completely covered in a gob of powdery cheese shit.

Yesterday we drove home from New Mexico. I played Pokémon Black. My brother played Pokémon Blue. I think it's funny that we were playing the opposite ends of the spectrum.

Nah, I can use the nurse a LOT better and I still got an extra snowboarder. Also: Series 1 is lots and lots rarer then the other two, it was gone after mere weeks, Series 2 and 3 have been around for months now.
... Unless you didn't realize I was talking about LEGO Minifigures... Then I can understand why you'd see it as a rubbish deal.
In other news: Rediscovered the Gorillaz, they're awesome. Been looping Rhinestone Eyes for a while now. :3

Re: A Study on the Feats of a Man - Three Mile Island Edition
Anyway, I had an... interesting dream last night. For some reason I was in a castle with my uncle (who I've never before seen, nor is he my real uncle) and all of a sudden some black cloaked dude came outta nowhere, and he was wearing a clown mask, and called himself "El Diablo" (I guess it was a Spanish castle...?).
El Diablo killed my uncle. I think. That parts hazy, now. Then he started chasing/fighting me, screaming stuff like "Even if you kill me, there's nine of us! You'll never escape us all!" (which, in dream-think, I related to the nine levels of Hell. Except it might be seven. Idk.) Then he cornered me, so I decided to tackle him.
So I did. Somehow I ended up on his back, and as I was trying to force him to the ground, he started... tickling me. And then I jolted awake, because I'd been tickling myself in my sleep. o.0

Re: A Study on the Feats of a Man - Three Mile Island Edition
Well, all good things must come to and end. We had to forcefully retire a player's character tonight and, as I expected, that player no longer wanted to play in that campaign and we decided to put an end to it. One character went off to hunt white dragons in the north, the barbarian went back to his ruined village to help rebuild it, and the paladin who was deemed unworthy of his holy powers turned his back on his god and became a bitter, evil fighter. We had only been playing for about a half an hour when this all happened, so for the rest of the night we had nothing left to do...so we played PlayStation and watched YouTube videos all night.
The player whose character got booted was really angry at first, but after an hour of sitting there in awkward silence with the occasional joke he kind of got over it. At the end of the night we decided that next week we're going to start a new campaign, with fresh characters and a new system. Normally when we do ability scores we roll all of our scores and arrange them however we like, but next week we're determining ability scores one by one (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, etc...You can't pick what scores are used for what abilities). We're making brand new characters that are built around the ability scores they roll, so we have no idea going in what kind of characters we'll play as. (Normally we have an idea for the character and try to arrange it so that our ability scores will work for that character, but this is the opposite.)
I'm also going to be a bit more unforgiving as a DM, and I told my players this. At first level I usually give my players max HP because they're sitting ducks if they don't have it, but next week they're rolling the dice they're supposed to and they're using whatever comes up. If one of them is a fighter, they roll a ten-sided die. What? They rolled a 2? Well, they start with 2 HP at first level, then...and a kobold kills them. And if one of them dies, I'm probably going to make the cost of resurrection absurdly high so that they can't afford it early on. Then they have to roll up a new character on the spot, like real D&D nuts.
Do I expect it to be frustrating? Yeah. Will it be fun? I think so...there should be a lot of good stories after next week. Also, I'll have my new dice by then!

So, a couple of days ago, when we were coming back from New Mexico, my family stopped at Philmont Scout Ranch (one of the three pinnacles of Scouting). On the ground, I found a piece of paper with a name, address, and a phone number.
I think I'll send this guy a letter for no reason other than I can.
So if any of you live in Florida and get an odd letter, it's from me.
>:D
